LOCATED! Visual Research e-Book: See Michelle’s findings here

UPDATE: SAT, OCT 1
SCOTT LIBRARY HAS DECIDED TO ONLY PURCHASE ONLINE VERSION OF ‘VISUAL RESEARCH’ BOOK. Second copies of all other books are being ordered and put on Reserve Shelves.

Michelle W wrote @ September 21, 2011 at 8:31 pm

Like I said in my earlier email, there is an easily accessible, complete, online copy of Visual Research available through the York Library eResources. It is available here:

http://site.ebrary.com.ezproxy.library.yorku.ca/lib/oculyork/docDetail.action?docID=10443168&p00=visual%20research%20noble

You will be asked to sign in through Passport York and then to ‘abide by acceptable use’ on the page after that. It should then take you directly to the book.

If the link does not work, follow these steps:

1) Go to the ‘Libraries’ page on the York website.

2) Above the search bar labeled ‘SEARCH LIBRARY RESOURCES’, click the ‘eResources’ tab.

3) In the search bar, type ‘Ebrary’. It will be the first option on the results page.

4) Click on ‘Click to access this resource’.

5) Sign into Passport York on the following page and agree to ‘abide by acceptable use’ on the one after that. You will now be on the Ebrary website.

6) In the Ebrary search bar, search ‘Visual Research Noble’ (Noble is one of the authors). It will be the first option on the results page.

7) Click the title of the book to access it.

Hope that helps everyone!

PROBLEM: E-Readings & Reserve Books on Weds, Sept 21

Dear Class,

Having received emails from several of you about trouble accessing eBooks & those on the Reserve Shelf in the Scott Library, I checked with the Heads of all the Departments responsible for getting these in place. (Mind you, I’ve been doing this each week with reassurances all will be in place or are in place…)

To my dismay, they are not in & this our 3rd week of class. Especially the ‘Visual Research’ book we are currently doing all of our readings, so I called & was reassured this will be done as quickly as possible. BTW, I was told they do have a hard copy, (although it does not come up in a digital search?) which they will put on the Reserve Shelf as soon as they locate it. Also they purchased an Ebook copy (BUT it has not been ‘catalogued’ as of yet).

In any case, I’ll check again this upcoming Thursday, in person!

Sincerely,
Catherine Ishino

P.S. All the Reserve books purchase requests have been sent i.e. as duplicate hard copies of each, and will later be able to be checked out for a 3-hour loan as well.

Update on E-Readings for Week 1

The e-books I requested have not been put up online by the Scott Library yet. So for the first week, you will need to go to the Scott library, read them there or photo copy them for your own usage. (Please see page 6 of the Syllabus I handed out last week or see ‘Readings’ on this blog for books, articles, chapters and pages number.)

The hard copy books are at the Circulation Desk on Reserve in the Scott Library. I tried to place two copies of each book to make them more accessible to you all. They are placed under my name, Catherine Ishino, and under the class name, Image & Influence, and YSDN 3106. You will have to give the librarian this information to check them out. I put all books on a 3-Hour Loan.

I have put wikipedia links for reference only, so you may get an overview of the authors and their frames-of-reference.
