FA YSDN 3106: Fall 2011

YSDN Room Availability

“Dear Students,

It has come to our attention that there is some confusion about room use and availability.

Both the Portfolio Room (TEL 4029) and the Type Studio (TEL 4027) are for the use of all YSDN students and these rooms are fully accessible 24/7 with an access card. Two printing presses, the laser cutter and electric cutter are located in the Type Studio for student use with the assistance of one of the technicians. (Please see note below about technicians’ location and hours). There are also some tables and chairs which can be used for relaxing or studying.

This year, the Design Students Association (DSA) has moved their locked cabinets into the Type Studio and shares the facility with all YSDN students. Should the space be required for a DSA meeting, or other student function, a notice will be posted on the door to inform other students that a meeting is in progress and students are asked to honour this request.

Both of the Design technicians, Loris Dotto and Rich Miziolek are now located together in one office (TEL 4033) that can be accessed through TEL 4032 (the former DSA room) which will remain open during office hours (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday). All students are asked to use this entrance which leads to their office door in order not to disturb classes in Studio 1 and Studio 2. All equipment loans and returns must be arranged through Loris or Rich during their regular office hours.

If anyone is still having problems with their access card not working, please send an email to The email should include your name, student number, access card number, program name and the problem you are having with the card (eg – which rooms you cannot get into).

Finally, the Design community shares all the study and work space in the TEL building so please remember to be respectful and considerate of others.

Thank you.

Department of Design”
